A superstition priced to the digit
In Mandarin, eight (bā) rhymes with fā, "to prosper". Four (sì) sounds close to "death". That single sound-alike moves real money: phone numbers, plates, apartment floors and numeric domains are repriced across markets with a combined population of billions.

Reading 44·88888 — an honest decode
The 88888 tail
Five consecutive eights is one of the most coveted endings in Chinese-speaking markets. It reads as "prosper ×5" and is exactly the pattern behind the 2020 Beijing phone-number sale.
The 44 prefix
Most Cantonese and Mandarin buyers discount a 4. But in set phrases 4 can stand for 世 (shì, "generation") — as in 1314, "a whole lifetime". Read that way, 4488888 becomes "generation after generation, prosper". In Western numerology, 4 is foundation and order.
The verdict
Seven digits, two unique, one run of five: elite memorability. Digit root 3 (48 → 12 → 3) — creativity in Western numerology, Jupiter in Vedic. Value is market-dependent: strongest with Western, Indian and Gulf audiences; a deliberate story is needed for East Asia. See the full scorecard →

Questions people ask
Is a lucky number actually worth more money?
Yes, in measurable markets. Phone numbers, plates and numeric domains with repeated 8s routinely sell at multiples of ordinary equivalents, especially with Chinese-speaking buyers. The premium is cultural and market-specific, which is why we score several traditions separately.
How is the Lucky Number Score calculated?
It weights Chinese homophone values (38%), pattern rarity and memorability (34%), Western/Vedic numerology root (16%) and Japanese readings (12%). It is an educational model, not an appraisal.

Is numerology scientific?
No. Numerology and number symbolism are cultural traditions. We document them because they shape real human and market behaviour — not because digits control destiny.
